Marine Infrastructure and Marine Ecosystem

 Marine Infrastructure and Marine Ecosystem

Introduction
Human civilization has been intricately dependent on the ocean since ancient times. Throughout history, coastal communities and maritime civilizations have thrived by harnessing the vast resources and benefits that the ocean offers. From sustenance to trade and cultural exchange, the ocean has provided humans with an array of necessities and opportunities. Ancient civilizations relied on the ocean for fishing, which served as a vital source of food and sustenance. Coastal regions became hubs of trade, facilitating the exchange of goods, ideas, and technologies across vast distances. Maritime routes opened up new avenues for exploration, colonization, and cultural diffusion. The ocean also played a significant role in transportation, enabling the movement of people and goods, fostering economic growth, and connecting diverse societies. Today, the dependency on the ocean continues, with maritime trade, fishing industries, offshore resources, and even tourism playing key roles in sustaining human livelihoods and global economies. Moreover, the ocean's influence extends beyond economic considerations, with its beauty, recreational opportunities, and ecological services providing solace, inspiration, and a sense of wonder to humanity. Recognizing the critical importance of the ocean, it becomes imperative for society to ensure its sustainable use and conservation, preserving this age-old dependency for generations to come.

Marine Infrastructure

However, nowadays a race for expansion of the land area to have a land-sea combo infrastructure has intensified the problem of marine life. In such a project, we are not only invading the marine ecosystem for temporary use, but we are acquiring it permanently.
Marine infrastructure can cause light, noise, and chemical pollution. It can also disrupt marine habitats and make it easier for invasive species to spread. As a result, marine life is under
increasing pressure, which can lead to reduced resilience and increased mortality. Previous have

shows that human activities collectively have a negative impact on marine life. However, the multiple impacts of marine infrastructure have yet to be well studied.

Marine infrastructure can also block fish migration routes and disrupt spawning grounds.

The cumulative effects of marine infrastructure and other human activities can be devastating for marine ecosystems. It is important to be aware of the negative impacts of marine infrastructure so that we can take steps to mitigate them. By working together, we can protect our oceans and the marine life that depends on them.

Market Expansion and Opportunities

In 2020, the global market for marine infrastructure was valued at US$1.2 trillion. The Asia-Pacific region is expected to be the fastest-growing market for marine infrastructure, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.5% from 2020 to 2025. The main drivers of growth in the marine infrastructure market are the increasing demand for offshore oil and gas production, the expansion of renewable energy projects, and the growth of the shipping industry. The acquisition of marine areas for marine infrastructure construction can have a significant impact on the marine environment.

 Fig: Blue Growth Schematic

Blue Economy and Blue Growth: The concept of a "blue economy" came out of the 2012 Rio+20 Conference and emphasizes conservation and sustainable management, based on the premise that a healthy ocean
ecosystems are more productive and a must for sustainable ocean-based economies. To support a shift to this new approach, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) launched the Blue Growth Initiative, through which it will assist countries in developing and implementing blue economy and growth agendas and the European Union developed its long-term strategy to support sustainable growth in the marine and maritime sectors as a whole. Seas and oceans are drivers for the European economy and have great potential for innovation and growth.
The 'blue' economy represents roughly 5.4 million jobs and generates a gross added value of almost €500 billion a  year. However, further growth is possible in a number of areas which are highlighted within the strategy.

Manmade Island

The number of man-made islands has increased by over 50% since 2000. The majority of man-made islands are located in Asia, with China accounting for the largest number of islands. The growth of man-made islands is driven by a number of factors, including increasing population, economic development, and environmental protection. The growth of man-made islands has a number of environmental and social implications, including the destruction of marine habitats, pollution, and the displacement of people.

As we can see, the majority of man-made islands are located in Asia. China accounts for the largest number of man-made islands, with over 1,000 islands.

Data on manmade Island.

The growth of man-made islands is driven by a number of factors, including increasing population, economic development, and environmental protection.

  • Increasing population: The world's population is growing rapidly, and with it, the demand for land. Man-made islands offer a way to create new land in areas where it is scarce.
  • Economic development: Man-made islands can be used to support economic development. For example, they can be used to build ports, airports, and other infrastructure. They can also be used to create new tourist destinations.
  • Environmental protection: Man-made islands can be used to protect natural areas from development. For example, they can be used to create artificial reefs to protect coral reefs from fishing and other activities.

Problems as a Whole

Marine infrastructure projects can face a wide range of challenges. Although the challenges are different for different project based on the local issues and that must be identified and mitigated through Environmental Impact Studies and Project Environmental Management Plan. However, some of the challenges that have been identified as very common are listed below:

Habitat Destruction: The construction of marine infrastructure such as ports, piers, and offshore platforms often involves the destruction and alteration of natural habitats, including coral reefs, seagrass beds, and mangrove forests. This loss of habitat can have significant impacts on marine species that rely on these ecosystems for food, shelter, and breeding.

Noise Pollution: Construction activities and ongoing operations of marine infrastructure generate significant noise, which can disrupt marine species' communication, feeding patterns, and reproductive behaviours. Marine animals, such as whales, dolphins, and fish, rely on sound for navigation, finding mates, and locating prey. Excessive noise can interfere with these crucial activities.

Water Pollution: The development of marine infrastructure can lead to increased pollution in the surrounding waters. Runoff from construction sites, discharge of industrial waste, and accidental oil spills pose threats to marine life. Pollutants can contaminate the water, affecting the health and survival of marine organisms.

Physical Barriers: The construction of structures like seawalls, breakwaters, and offshore wind farms can create physical barriers that alter natural water flow patterns. These barriers can disrupt migratory routes of marine animals, preventing them from accessing essential feeding or breeding grounds.

Introduction of Invasive Species:
The establishment of new marine infrastructure often involves the introduction of non-native species through biofouling on ships or equipment. These invasive species can outcompete native species, disrupt the balance of the ecosystem, and lead to the decline of indigenous marine life.

Increased Vessel Traffic: Expanding marine infrastructure leads to increased vessel traffic, including cargo ships, tankers, and recreational boats. This heightened maritime activity raises the risk of collisions with marine mammals, turtles, and other vulnerable species. It can also result in underwater noise pollution from ship engines and propellers.

Climate Change and Sea Level Rise: As marine infrastructure continues to expand, it becomes more susceptible to the impacts of climate change, including rising sea levels and more frequent extreme weather events. These changes can cause damage to structures and further disrupt marine ecosystems, affecting the overall health and resilience of marine life.

Mitigation Measure

Mitigating the impacts on marine life resulting from the development of marine infrastructure requires a proactive and holistic approach. Here are some strategies and measures that can help mitigate these problems:

  • Environmental Impact Assessments: Conduct comprehensive environmental impact assessments before starting any marine infrastructure project. This will help identify potential risks and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Habitat Conservation and Restoration: Identify and protect critical marine habitats, such as coral reefs, seagrass meadows, and mangrove forests, through marine protected areas or other conservation measures. Implement habitat restoration projects to rehabilitate damaged ecosystems.
  • Sustainable Construction Practices: Incorporate sustainable construction practices that minimize environmental impacts. This includes reducing sediment and pollutant runoff, employing noise reduction measures, and adhering to best practices for waste management.
  • Noise Mitigation: Minimize underwater noise levels generated by construction and operational activities. This can be achieved by using quieter machinery, establishing quiet zones in sensitive areas, and implementing construction schedules that avoid critical periods for marine species.
  • Pollution Control: Implement strict measures to prevent and control water pollution. This includes proper management of construction waste, regular monitoring of water quality, and utilizing environmentally friendly materials and practices.
  • Vessel Traffic Management: Develop and enforce regulations for vessel traffic to minimize collisions with marine life. This can involve speed restrictions, navigational guidelines, and the establishment of marine corridors or wildlife crossings.
  • Invasive Species Prevention: Implement measures to prevent the introduction of invasive species through biofouling control on ships and equipment. Strict protocols for ballast water management and hull cleaning can help reduce the risk of introducing non-native species.
  • Research and Monitoring: Conduct ongoing research and monitoring programs to assess the impacts of marine infrastructure on marine life. This data will help identify emerging issues and inform adaptive management strategies.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration: Involve relevant stakeholders, including government agencies, environmental organizations, local communities, and industry representatives, in decision-making processes. Collaboration and engagement promote shared responsibility and foster innovative solutions.
  • Compliance and Enforcement: Establish robust regulatory frameworks and enforcement mechanisms to ensure adherence to environmental regulations and mitigation measures.

Here are few examples of the projects worldwide that created problems for marine life from rapidly growing marine infrastructure:

  1. The Great Barrier Reef, Australia: The construction of ports and shipping channels along the coastline adjacent to the Great Barrier Reef has raised concerns about the potential impacts on this iconic marine ecosystem. Increased shipping traffic, dredging activities, and the release of sediment and pollutants have led to coral bleaching, damage to seagrass beds, and a decline in biodiversity. Efforts are being made to mitigate these impacts through stricter regulations and sustainable practices.
  2. Offshore Wind Farms in the North Sea: The rapid development of offshore wind farms in the North Sea has raised concerns about their impact on marine life, particularly seabirds and marine mammals. The construction noise, increased vessel traffic, and potential disruption of migratory routes pose challenges to these vulnerable species. Research and monitoring programs are being conducted to assess and minimize these impacts while maximizing the renewable energy potential.
  3. Port Expansion in Santos, Brazil: The expansion of the Port of Santos, one of the busiest ports in Latin America, has resulted in significant habitat loss and water pollution. The construction of new terminals and dredging activities have impacted the adjacent mangrove forests, seagrass beds, and coral reefs. Efforts are underway to restore and protect these habitats and implement sustainable practices to reduce pollution and minimize impacts on marine life.
  4. Land Reclamation in Singapore: Singapore has undertaken extensive land reclamation projects to expand its coastline and accommodate its growing population and economic needs. However, these projects have resulted in the loss of natural coastal habitats, including coral reefs and seagrass meadows. The destruction of these habitats has had cascading effects on the marine ecosystem, impacting the biodiversity and resilience of marine species.
  5. Panama Canal Expansion: The recent expansion of the Panama Canal to accommodate larger vessels has raised concerns about the potential impacts on marine life in the region. Increased vessel traffic, underwater noise, and the alteration of water flow patterns can disrupt the migration patterns of marine species such as whales and dolphins. Monitoring programs are in place to assess the impacts and implement mitigation measures.

Urgent: Excessive Delay in Vehicle Dent Repair - Immediate Action Required!

Dear Beema, Qatar Automobile Company & MG Car,

I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to express my profound disappointment and frustration regarding the recent experience I had with Qatar Automobile Company's dent repair service, street 18, Industrial Area, Qatar. I entrusted my vehicle, MG ZS-2022, to your esteemed agency on the scheduled appointment date for a small dent repair. However, to my utmost surprise, I was informed that the return date for my car would be one month from the submission date.

The nature of the dent repair was minor, and it is evident that such a job should not take more than 2-3 days, as you are well aware. Considering this, the excessively long timeline given by your agency for the completion of the repair is unacceptable and far from reasonable. I rely on my car for daily transportation, and this extended delay has caused significant inconvenience to my personal and professional life.

As a loyal customer, I chose Beema Insurance primarily because it was offered by the MG car showroom at the time of my car purchase. Regrettably, the service provided by Beema has not lived up to the expectations in terms of prompt and efficient service delivery. I firmly believe that as a reputable insurance provider and a renowned automobile company, you have a responsibility to prioritize customer satisfaction and ensure timely and quality service.

I urge Qatar Automobile Company to urgently reevaluate its vehicle repair process time and streamline its procedures to provide efficient and swift service to its valued customers. Delays of this magnitude not only tarnish your reputation but also cause immense inconvenience to the customers who rely on your services.

I request that you take immediate action to expedite the repair process of my vehicle and provide a revised return date that aligns with the reasonable timeframe for the dent repair. Additionally, I would appreciate transparent communication throughout the process to keep me informed about the status of my car.

I trust that you will treat this matter with the utmost seriousness it deserves and resolve it promptly. Failure to do so may leave me with no choice but to consider alternative options for my vehicle insurance and repair needs.

I look forward to receiving your prompt response and resolution to this matter.

Sincerely,

Sarfraz

Misandry & Misogyny

Misandry is a term used to describe a strong dislike, contempt, or prejudice against men or boys. It is the opposite of misogyny, which refers to dislike, contempt, or prejudice against women or girls. Like misogyny, misandry can manifest in various ways, such as through verbal or physical abuse, objectification, discrimination, or harassment. While it is not as common as misogyny, misandry is still a serious issue that can have harmful effects on the individuals who experience it, as well as on society as a whole. Combatting misandry requires a collective effort to challenge and dismantle the beliefs, attitudes, and behaviours that perpetuate gender-based discrimination and violence, regardless of the gender being targeted

Summary of Book: How to win friends and influence people

Summary of Book: How to win friends and influence people

1) Don't criticize, condemn, or complain: Instead of complaining about a coworker's behaviour, try to understand their perspective and approach them with a solution-focused attitude. For example, instead of saying, "You're always late to meetings," you could say, "I noticed that you've been running behind schedule lately. Is there anything I can do to help?"

2) Give honest and sincere appreciation: Take the time to recognize and appreciate the efforts of others. For example, you could say, "Thank you so much for going the extra mile on that project. Your hard work really paid off."

3) Arouse in the other person an eager want: Instead of trying to force someone to do something, make them want to do it. For example, you could say, "Imagine how much more productive we could be if we all chipped in to help with this task. What do you think?"

4) Become genuinely interested in other people: Take an interest in others and listen to what they have to say. Ask questions and show that you care about their opinions and experiences. For example, you could ask a colleague about their weekend or their recent vacation.

5) Smile: A smile can go a long way in building rapport with others. Try to smile more often, especially when you're in social situations or interacting with others.

6) Remember that a person's name is, to that person, the sweetest and most important sound in any language: Make an effort to remember people's names and use them when you talk to them. For example, you could say, "Hi Sarah, it's great to see you again."

7) Be a good listener. Encourage others to talk about themselves: Pay attention to others and let them talk about their experiences, opinions, and feelings. Show that you're listening by nodding, making eye contact, and responding to what they say. For example, you could say, "Tell me more about that. I'd love to hear your thoughts."

What is professional indemnity insurance?

Professional indemnity insurance (PII) is a type of insurance coverage that protects professionals, such as architects, consultants, engineers, accountants, and lawyers, against financial losses and legal liabilities that may arise from errors, omissions, or wrongful acts committed in the course of their professional activities.
For example, if an architect designs a building that later turns out to have a structural defect, and the building owner suffers a financial loss as a result, the architect's PII policy would provide coverage for their legal liability and any compensation that may be awarded to the building owner.
The purpose of PII is to give professionals the peace of mind to know that they have protection against potential financial losses and to help them maintain their reputation and credibility in the event of a claim being made against them. It is typically a requirement for many professions, especially for those who are providing services to clients and want to protect their financial interests.

Being left out

Being left out

"If you're looking for a way to boost your energy and mood, consider getting some sun heat in the morning". While following the above line this morning I went out to get sun heat, and after some time, one colleague join me. However, I saw his face was not charming as happens usually. He is a very outspoken and social guy. He always thinks better for his colleagues and other people and really he is a nice guy as far as I know. I was surprised that he is so sad in the early morning when no one has seen their bosses until now. Then this sadness must not be due to the workload or bossism it is some things else. I went close to him to know the actual reason.

What happen bro why are you so sad?

Nothing man, It's a feeling we've all experienced at some point or another: being left out. The sting of exclusion can be especially sharp when it comes from people we thought were our friends.

At first, I was in shock. How could this be? Had I done something to offend this person? Was there some kind of falling out that I was unaware of? These questions and more raced through my mind as I tried to make sense of the situation.

As I continued to ponder the events of the past few weeks, I couldn't shake the feeling of rejection. It seemed that no matter how hard I tried to rationalize the situation, the hurt still lingered. The thought of being deliberately excluded by someone I once considered a colleague was difficult to accept

It's funny how these things can change our perspective on relationships. I used to think that work friendships were different from personal relationships, but now I realize that work relationships can be just as complex and emotional as any other kind of friendship.

In the end, I know that I need to let go of this situation and move on. Holding on to hurt and anger will only hurt me in the long run. But the experience has taught me an important lesson: that even the relationships we think are solid can change in the blink of an eye. And, as difficult as it may be, it's up to us to pick ourselves up and keep going, even when we feel left out.

An Evening With Food Delivery Boy- Qatar

An Evening With Food Delivery Boy- Qatar

This was the hot and humid summer month of Doha,  August 2022; I was back in Doha after a short trip to my home country. Night 8 O’clock, I was in the Hospital with a high fever and was waiting for the doctor.

An Asian guy with torn clothes and visible scratched bloody skin was sitting with me. He was in pain and waiting for the doctor. His condition was stagnant after having the first aid medication and dressing.

I was trying to chat with him to ease in the pain and get some information on the scenario.

He said he is a food delivery boy, working in a food delivery chain company. And was met with an accident, today evening. The information has sent to the organization by the Police and the guy with whom he involves during the accident.

The good part of unfortunate accidents in Qatar is people do not fight after having an accident to blame each other in most cases. They remain calm and try to ease each other. The guideline from the ministry for reporting accidents is also very easy, just log in to the application and upload with photo (This is limited to accident with minor cases- minor stand for an accident which do not hurt anyone and has non-serious injuries). In other cases, traffic police visit the site after the phone call immediately and used to call the air ambulance if required overall the coordination and services are excellent.

While sharing the ground experience the guy explained that driving a bike (two-wheeler) is a life-taking job in Qatar. Here the vehicles are moving at a fast speed and there are a lot of cars. Compare to other vehicles the ratio of cars is very high which makes Qatar roads riskier for bikers. We the food delivery boys are having a very tough life and it is not limited to any specific country it is all over the world and specifically in developing countries where there is no dedicated motorbike lane.

The three major issues of our life are:

1)Pressure from Organization- days target

2)Risk of getting into an accident - No alternative, must go on with traffic

3)Fear of not meeting customer expectations - Which are never met in most cases.

Still, I am happy that at least I have a job and am able to arrange the feed for my dependent. Even though this job I get after having paid a lot of money to the middleman in my country. I must meet the target of repayment of the loan which took to pay the middleman before getting the Qatar visa.  Hence, no other way to escape the risk. This is better to die here than to stay in my home country and do nothing for my family.

There are risks in every job and no job is risk-free, maybe Allah has chosen me for this risk. I am very positive and take it as compliments. I am a part of happiness for many by delivering the food. Many people offer me water and food after getting the service. If we are talking about the person with whom I got into this accident was a nice human, he came down from his car to take me up, accept his mistake, offer me water, called the police and ambulance and gave me his visiting card to call him after I am done with doctors.

Yes, there is another side of the story, what happens to those who got serious accidents? No information available, he said and became silent.

Next few moments we were silent then my cousin reached to me as the doctor's assistant was calling my name to get into the doctor's visit.

I was admitted to the hospital for four days and my concentration never went off for the line “there are risks in every job and no job is a risk-free job”.

Two-wheeled motor vehicles, such as motorcycles and scooters, are a common mode of transportation for food delivery drivers in Qatar. These vehicles offer several advantages for delivery drivers, including their size, speed, and manoeuvrability, which allow them to navigate through congested roads and traffic quickly and efficiently.

Moreover, with the growing popularity of food delivery services, two-wheeled motor vehicles have become a critical component of the food delivery industry in Qatar, providing a convenient and reliable means of transporting food to customers. This has created job opportunities for many individuals.

Challenges that two-wheeled motor vehicle riders face in Qatar: There are many challenges however, few are listed for quick and easy understanding.

Traffic congestion: Qatar has a rapidly growing population and heavy traffic, which can make it difficult for two-wheeled motor vehicle riders to navigate through the busy streets.

Hot weather conditions: The hot and humid weather in Qatar can be a challenge for two-wheeled motor vehicle riders, who are exposed to the elements while riding.

Lack of dedicated motorcycle lanes: Unlike some other countries, Qatar does not have dedicated motorcycle lanes, which can make it difficult for two-wheeled motor vehicle riders to safely navigate the roads. I believe the pace Qatar govt is getting better in the world, they will have a dedicated motorcycle lane soon.

Road hazards: Road hazards are less in Qatar in terms of other developing countries, However, some common road hazards are potholes, construction, and road debris, that two-wheeled motor vehicle riders must be cautious of while riding. The problem with two-wheeler drive is a small pothole may be a severe hazard for fast-coming bikers and another way it is not a big issue for cars.

Importance of protective gear: The jewellery of two-wheeler drivers and motor vehicle riders must wear protective gear, such as a helmet, gloves, and other protective clothing, to minimize the risk of injury in the event of an accident.

Distracted driving: Getting frequent follow-up calls from customers and supervisors distracting the driver, is also a potential reason for accident increase.

Here are some guidelines for two-wheeled motor vehicle drivers to avoid accidents: These guides and alerts are being sent to the PROs and other guys, and many seminars are being conducted by the traffic department from time to time. This information is being circulated in many languages by the concerned department of the Qatar government such as Nepali, Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, Malayalam, and English.

Follow traffic laws: Always obey traffic signals, speed limits, and other regulations. This helps ensure everyone's safety on the road.

Wear protective gear: Always wear a helmet and other protective clothing when driving a two-wheeled motor vehicle.

Stay visible: Make sure your vehicle is equipped with proper lighting and wear bright or reflective clothing to increase your visibility on the road.

Keep a safe following distance: Leave enough space between you and the vehicle in front of you to allow for sudden stops or turns.

Avoid distractions: Don't use your phone or other devices while driving. Focus on the road and stay alert.

Be aware of your surroundings: Keep an eye out for other vehicles, pedestrians, and road hazards, and adjust your speed and driving accordingly.

Stay within your limits: Don't take risks that exceed your skill level, and don't drive when you're tired or under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Regularly maintain your vehicle: Make sure your two-wheeled motor vehicle is in good condition, with working brakes, lights, and other safety features.

PM2.5 and PM10 are major problems in Delhi

PM 10 and PM 2.5 are major air pollution problems in Delhi, India. PM 10 and PM 2.5 refer to particulate matter with diameters of 10 micrometers and 2.5 micrometers, respectively. These small particles can penetrate deep into the lungs and cause health problems, including respiratory and heart diseases.

Delhi has some of the highest levels of air pollution in the world, with PM 10 and PM 2.5 levels frequently exceeding safe limits set by the World Health Organization (WHO). This is due to a combination of factors, including vehicular emissions, industrial activity, construction dust, and burning of crop residue in neighbouring states.

The permissible limit of PM2.5 (fine particulate matter) and PM10 (coarse particulate matter) in the air are 60 ฮผg/m³  and 100 ฮผg/m³ respectively as per the National Ambient Air Quality Standards in India. However, the average levels of PM2.5 and PM10 in Delhi are often much higher and reach hazardous levels during certain times of the year.

The government and environmental organizations are taking steps to address this problem, including implementing stricter emission standards for vehicles and industries, promoting clean energy sources, and increasing public awareness about the dangers of air pollution.

However, much more needs to be done to effectively tackle air pollution in Delhi and ensure the health and well-being of its residents. It will require sustained effort and collaboration from the government, industries, and citizens to reduce emissions and improve air quality in the city.

Air pollution

Air pollution is a major environmental problem affecting the health and well-being of populations around the world. It refers to the presence of harmful substances in the air we breathe, including chemicals, particulate matter, and biological agents. These pollutants can come from both natural and human sources, and their impact on the environment and human health is a growing concern.

One of the primary sources of air pollution is the burning of fossil fuels for transportation and energy production. This releases harmful chemicals into the air, including carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter. In addition to the effects of these pollutants on air quality, they also contribute to climate change, which can have far-reaching impacts on ecosystems and human health.

Another significant source of air pollution is industrial activities, including manufacturing, agriculture, and waste management. These industries often release chemicals and particulate matter into the air, affecting local air quality and contributing to global air pollution.

Air pollution has serious consequences for human health. It can lead to respiratory problems, heart disease, stroke, and cancer, among other health issues. Children, the elderly, and
people with pre-existing health conditions are especially vulnerable to the effects of air pollution.

To reduce air pollution and its impacts on human health and the environment, governments and organizations around the world are taking action. This includes implementing policies and regulations to limit emissions from industry and transportation, promoting clean energy production, and encouraging individuals to adopt more sustainable lifestyles.

Individuals can also play a role in reducing air pollution by reducing their use of fossil fuels, choosing environmentally-friendly transportation options, and reducing their waste and consumption. By taking these steps, we can all help to improve air quality and protect the health and well-being of populations around the world.

In conclusion, air pollution is a complex and growing problem with serious consequences for human health and the environment. By taking action at the individual, organizational, and governmental levels, we can reduce air pollution and work towards a cleaner, healthier future.

Transformation of Education System: Online Education is a demand for the time

Transformation of Education System: Online Education is a demand for the time

The era we are having is an information era where the information is easily available for all, and it is on your tip approach. Just a click away you have all the information and answers from experts around the globe.

Not to go far away from the topic and remains concentrated on describing the transformation of the education system from Gurukul to Pitkul, (full-time guru supervision to part-time guru supervision) distance education and online education.

In the ancient era, we were having education in Gurkul where the pupils leave the Pitakull and spend time in gurukul. Guru used to provide him gradual education which was required for a normal human being to perform the day to activity including the rule. Why did I mention the rule here because education was limited to some people not for everyone, now it is other topics of discussion why? Maybe other people were not thinking to have it because of their personal choice, necessity or was not allowed! This kind of education was provided in a very constrained manner and it has been given for centuries and centuries. It was mainly based on the heart-to-heart transfer of knowledge.

Some of the people feel the need to maintain the record of Guru’s lesson – The record was planted on bark, stone, leaves, rocks etc. It has been modified as per the development of civilization and now we have paper and soft copies on the internet, and you can say in bits and qubits.

Then the time came when we have a lot of direct shiksha (lesson) records from famous Gurus of their time in their original form in the record system. It brings humans to leave the Gurukul slowly. So, the formation of books was begun, and the education system observed a drastic change. It was the second milestone in the education system after the first milestone of having a Guru for shiksha. The earlier system was having full-time supervision under a guru and heart-to-heart transfer of knowledge along with the practical stuff now we were having part-time supervision with books or written forms of things. The change was criticized as usual, but it was a need of the hour. It went on its own way and was accepted in society.

It was always a race among humans to have the best and more education and hence people were thirsty to take more than one guru. The possibility of attending two, three, four or five Guru in a short span of life was not viable. And then the book came into action to fill this gap, the thirst for having more and more knowledge was fulfilled by the book or the record from different Guru’s. The reason for having this thirst was to develop social and be a respected elite people. Like we same have it today.

All the education is to develop society and upgrade the standard of living with peace, harmony, and equal distribution of wealth. However, the last word equal distribution seems to be a myth since the ancient era and still has the co-status.

The combination of book and four-wall education under limited supervision from the full-time supervision of Guru went to different heights. The system did better for centuries and remains at its peak.

However, when our necessities and priority changed then we feel to add something to the system. we brought distance education where physical attendance was not required and students have to study the notes from the university and submit the assignment, however, they were still required to attend the exam physically in the university or at a designated centre. It was a cheaper education with respect to formal education because of less interaction with the university, the student was offered the degree courses at a very cheap price.

It was appreciated and criticized, it was said to have developed a society without teachers and so many things. However, distance education brought changes in human's life and acceptance was given in stages.

Now in recent times, we are witnessing another change in the forms of online education which is quite different from distance education a bit close to physical education and a bit far from distance education. This is something which is given through the internet under the virtual presence through a webcam. This can include a wide range of formats, such as video lectures, interactive quizzes, readings, and discussions. Online education can be self-paced or synchronous (real-time) and can take place in a variety of settings, including traditional colleges and universities, MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses), boot camps, and professional development programs.

The certificate courses were accepted before too but the degree in online education is also accepted now after approval from the UGC (University Grant Commission).

People were not having a good feeling about online education, however, in Coivid-19 period all education went online with no other choice, and they observed the credibility and capability of online education by force. Now they started seeing it as another option.

In my view, the developing trend for job-specific skills may rise online education where many IT companies have announced to take workforce based on certification from Courser
a, google and LinkedIn etc. In fact, Coursera is offering degree programmes from many well-known universities.

Online education can offer dropouts or people who have not finished their education a second chance to continue their studies and obtain a degree or certificate.

Compared to traditional education, online learning can be more affordable because there are frequently no housing or travel expenditures, and certain online degree programs may charge reduced tuition.

online education can offer a way for people to learn and develop skills who might not have access to traditional education. It can also be a financially viable option for people who want to further their education.

Many people who might not have otherwise had the chance to seek education now have greater access to it thanks to online learning. Here are some ways that online education might help close knowledge gaps:

Access to education for rural or underserved locations: Where traditional brick-and-mortar institutions may not be available, online education can offer access to educational possibilities for persons living in remote or underserved areas.
Flexibility for non-traditional students: Online education can offer flexibility to non-traditional students who may not be able to attend traditional classes, such as working adults or those with family responsibilities.
Alternative for people with disabilities: For people with impairments who might find it challenging to attend typical classes in person, online education provides an option.

The sector has changed in several ways thanks to online education, including:

Access has increased: People who might not be able to attend conventional brick-and-mortar institutions, like those who live in remote areas, have impairments, or have employment or family commitments, are now more likely to be able to pursue an education.

Flexibility: Online learning gives students the freedom to study when and how they want, which is particularly advantageous for non-traditional students and adults who are working.

Cost Savings: Since there are frequently no housing or travel fees associated with online education, it can be more affordable than traditional schooling.

Variety of course offerings: Compared to traditional educational institutions, online educational platforms provide a broader range of courses and programs, which can be advantageous for students who want to pursue specialized or specialized fields of study.

Technology advancements: The growth of online education has sparked the creation of new tools and technologies that improve the educational process, including virtual reality, AI, and adaptive learning.

Blended learning: By promoting blended learning, which combines traditional and online education, online education has also revolutionized the sector. This approach can be advantageous for both students and teachers, resulting in the best possible learning environment.

Globalization: Online learning has made it possible for both students and teachers to access audiences throughout the world.

There are several universities in India that offer online bachelor and master courses, some of the popular universities that offer such courses are:
